To many construction companies, wood paneling and wallpaper were the bain of our existence. Then wallpaper made a come back no one was really expecting and now the resurrection of the wood paneling. However, this is not the ugly 60’s- 80’s wood paneling we all know and hate. This is sleek, modern, and just all around hot right now. In fact, people are opting to put wood on the floors, walls, rafters, and have wood accents. With that, let’s take a look at some ways you can use wood in your next renovation project.

Wood on the Walls

Like we mentioned before, this is not that outdated wood paneling that cursed so many homes in the past. Instead of laying the wood vertically, get some thick, reclaimed “story telling” wood and lay it horizontally. This makes for an outstanding accent wall in any room.

Lately, contractors have been leaning toward harder surface like concrete and tile floors paired with sleek wood panels with a walnut stain. It’s a great way to soften up the room and add some warmth with a hint of a country flair. Think of it as the modern take on a rustic style.

Budget Friendly

Real wood floors are something we all wish we could have, however that is not always the case. Now that doesn’t mean that you can’t have wood in your home. A great way to add wood into your home is to have some wood accents. So if changing out your flooring is too costly, opt for reclaimed wood or rustic wooden furniture. Keep an eye out for a coffee table, dining table, mirror, or bed frame. Remember to add wood accents in moderation!

Huge Variety

Right now wood in all finishes is hot right now, whether in a clear stain or it’s natural form. Knotty pieces of wood bring a very organic look,  while painted varieties are classic and always popular with homeowners and potential buyers. One style that’s on-trend is the modern farmhouse look, which blends reclaimed beams, mantels, and shiplap with sleek furnishings like pendant lights and stainless steel appliances. If this style is sounding familiar to you then you are probably an avid watcher of the HGTV show “Fixer Upper” with Chip and Joanna Gains.

Easy to Decorate With

You can’t make too many mistakes when choosing wood accents for your home. There are many ways to incorporate this material without breaking the bank, including details like wooden frames, hall and bathroom mirrors, thick branches stacked into a vase, a mounted rustic wine rack, coasters, and serving bowls. Even a small item, like a magnifying glass with a wooden handle, can have great impact.

Appealing to the Senses

Homeowners are turing to cedar in particular for its distinctive scent. Cedar can awken the senses with its therapeutic scent. Cedar also repels insects and other unwanted pests like moths. So it acts as a force field to proect your wool coats, sweaters, and blankets.
