How to Survive a Kitchen Remodel

Congratulations! The kitchen remodeling job you have planned for months is finally ready to begin! Now comes the hard part: making do without a fully functioning kitchen for the duration of the remodel. There is no escaping the inconvenience, but with some smart planning, it does not have to wreak havoc on your household. All you have to do is follow these 3 Steps to make the construction process as smooth as possible and the time will fly by.

Step 1: Designate a Stand In Kitchen.

Eating out all the time gets tiresome, it also puts a strain on your budget. Setting up a temporary kitchen is the best way to go. This way you will have somewhere to make school lunches, pour a bowl of cereal, or brew coffee. If you are lucky enough to have a morning kitchen or a guesthouse, you can turn that into food-prep central. However, you can also find a corner of the garage or workroom with a few portable tables, standalone shelves, storage crates, and folding chairs.

Step 2: Plan Meals Around Small Appliances.

Portable appliances such as slow cookers, microwaves, toaster ovens, electric griddles and skillets, hot plates, and coffee makers can get you over the mealtime dilemma. Move your fridge to your temporary kitchen, if possible; if not, invest in a mini-fridge and a chest freezer. This will make storage incredibly easier. Make life easier by stocking up on recyclable or biodegradable plates, napkins, cups, and utensils. Your stream-line clean up will cut down on the stress of your temporary displacement

Step 3: Remember The Big Picture.Beautiful Kitchen in New Luxury Home

In the grand scheme of homeownership, this is but a short period of inconvenience amid years of kitchen bliss. Keep the process in perspective and treat it as an adventure. Keep up to date with all of the progress being made and that everything is going according to plan. If you do the time will fly by and when you are hard at work in your new sparkling kitchen, the temporary hassles will fade from memory.
